You may remember, the tragic and totally preventable death of Awaab Ishak back in December 2020 due to prolonged exposure to mould in his home. Because of this a new law was passed in 2023 and must be fully implemented by October 2025! The main people this will affect are housing associations, councils and any other organisations responsible for housing people, it will also eventually extend to private landlords. With the introduction Awaab’s Law, housing organisations are now legally required to investigate and resolve damp and mould issues within strict timeframes – or face significant penalties.
